The "SALTA Unit" is the main biotechnological component of SALTA. It is a fully automated system capable of performing approximately 24,000 unit tests per day. SALTA units are generally deployed in hospitals involved in the screening strategy (one unit per hospital).
The SALTA Unit has been developed and used for almost 15 years. Currently, it is the only solution that enables massive virus screening across a fully monitored network infrastructure.
SALTA Units are deployed by the SALTA delivery center, under the final responsibility of the SALTA Unit R&D team. In operation, each SALTA Unit is under the responsibility of its SUO (SALTA Unit Officer) and used by each SUU (SALTA Unit User) who has been trained by the SUO.

The "SALTA Server" hosts all the necessary IT services. It offers many important SALTA features:
The load balancing service is used for selecting which SALTA unit will process the samples from the SALTA kits. This is important to optimize the use of SALTA units during the pandemic phase where broad and rapid screening is necessary at regional or even national level.
The publication service (of test results) is used by all SALTA units to transmit their results to a centralized database.
The sample gathering scheduling service is available for any citizen for scheduling his own test in any SALTA Drive.

The "SALTA Drive" is the place where citizens are welcomed to be tested. It is important to put people at ease with the action of coming and being tested; the SALTA Drive must be secure, respectful of human beings, and at same time, become a place where people can imagine coming back regularly to be tested.
Its reference version is designed by the SALTA Kit R&D team but it can be personalized by the local SALTA Delivery Center to comply with national specificities (e.g. traditions or religious rules).
The sample collection scheduling service is hosted by the "SALTA server" as a B2C service, is available to any citizen for the planning of collection meetings (on demand) in any SALTA Drive of the city.

The “SALTA Kit” component is the standard saliva sample collection unit. SALTA kits form a network, they are distributed in "SALTA Drives" located in the cities involved in the screening strategy. Their number is proportional to the size of the city and may also depend on the screening strategy.
A SALTA Kit is a block made up of a refrigerator containing all the consumables necessary for the test, a 2D barcode reader and a tablet connected to the "SALTA Server".
SALTA kits are managed by the SALTA Kit Officers (SKO). For each test, the SKO verifies the identity of the citizen and performs the process of collecting saliva samples (in less than 5 minutes).
